Sergeant Livesay Correctional Institution, Spartanburg (SPARTANBURG) Level 1

Supervises and directs operations section of institution.

Ensure that counts are conducted and count sheets are accurate.

Supervises housing assignments, out counts and transportation.

Maintains an adequate staff to carry out assigned missions.

Ensures that inmates are scheduled for bus system and transported as required.

Supervises In/out processing, including searches and inventories as required.

Acts as a backup to the shift supervisor in an emergency; maintains safety of public, employees, inmates and property while on duty.

Performs other operational related duties while on duty, such as key control and armory functions.

Conducts roll call.

Monitors, instructs and counsels officers regarding rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Makes sanitation, safety, and security inspections of all buildings and grounds.

Investigates complaints and refers to appropriate staff as required.

Submits reports regarding incidents as they occur.

Evaluates subordinate officer duty performance.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.

• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.

• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
